Help! I Need More Business Content Ideas!

business content ideas

For business marketers, content is king. To keep your audience engaged, you need to constantly be creating new blog posts, videos, infographics, etc. — the more visual, the better.

But what do you do when you’ve run out of business content ideas?

It happens without warning. Things are going along just swimmingly, but then you sit down to write a blog post for next week only to realize that the content well has run dry.

There are no topics left. You’ve covered them all.

Help!

We know how you feel. We’ve been there ourselves. But we always manage to pull ourselves out of the slump — and you can, too. Feel free to borrow one of these tried-and-true emergency business content ideas.

6 Great Ways to Generate More Business Content Ideas

Reuse or Repurpose

Do you have a previously published piece of content that did reasonably well the first time around? Reuse (and refresh) it. Chances are your audience has grown since then, so some of them will be seeing it for the first time. And even those who have seen it before could likely use an update.

Not loving the straight rerun? Try to repurpose it instead. A video could be turned into a blog post, a blog post could be turned into an infographic, or an infographic could be used as the basis for an informational webinar. You’re sharing the same information, just in a different format.

Piggyback on a Trending Topic

What’s going on in the world right now? If everyone’s talking about something, you have a chance to join in the conversation — and get your business out there in the process.

Is everyone screaming about federal interest rates? Explain what the latest increase means for your local credit union customers. Was there a high-level security breach at a Fortune 500 company? Tie that into a blog about cybersecurity — and don’t forget to pitch your business’s software solution at the end.

Creep the Competition

Don’t straight-up copy your competition, but try to learn from them. Do a little social media sleuthing and see what they (and their audience) are discussing, then mine for some content.
You never know what you’ll find!

Peruse the Public Forums

Public forums and message boards are an untapped resource filled with content ideas. What are people talking about? What questions do they have? And what are they dying to know more about?

Find a forum or message board related to your industry and use it as a springboard for content creation. Answer questions in a blog post or how-to video and then link to it in the comment section. Not only are you solving your content problem, but you’re also gaining a new audience member!

Spotlight an Employee or Customer

People love to talk about themselves — and when people are talking about themselves, the content practically writes itself.

Pick an employee or valued customer and “interview” them. Ask them questions about their job, family, hobbies, pets … anything interesting is fair game. Your audience will enjoy the glimpse into someone else’s life, and you’ll enjoy an easy week in the content creation game.
