Out of Ideas for Your Small Business Blog? Here’s What to Do!

small business blog

Your small business blog is an important part of your overall marketing strategy, but there’s no denying that coming up with topics week in and week out can be a giant pain in the you-know-where. Your followers have come to expect fresh content on a consistent schedule. Skip even a week or two of posts, and you run the risk of falling off their radars.

So what do you do when your personal supply of creative juice runs dry? We have you covered. Feel free to blatantly steal one (or all!) of the following ideas for your small business blog.

Host an “Ask Me Anything”

How did you come up with your business name? How many products do you sell each day? Is Marvel better than DC? Host an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on your social media pages and you can expect to answer these questions and plenty more. Once the AMA is over, it’s simple to recap some of the best questions and answers in a blog post!

Create a “Best Of” Post

What topics resonate best with your audience? Which posts got the most comments, likes or shares? Which have the most hits on your website?

Creating a “best of” roundup blog post is as simple as collecting some of your most popular posts, saying a thing or two about them and linking back to the original content. Easy peasy!

Repurpose Old Content

Everything old can become new again with a bit of finagling. Turn a previous blog post into a video, podcast or infographic. Take a previous video, podcast or infographic and turn it into a blog post. Revisit previous blog posts and update them to make them more relevant. There is absolutely nothing wrong with recycling content as long as you can add value to it in some way!

Create an FAQ

Most small business owners answer the same questions day in and day out. You don’t mind it, of course — it’s all in the job description — but creating an FAQ post to answer some of the most commonly asked questions can fill a slot in your blog calendar and (maybe) cut down on some of those frequent calls, emails and messages.

Bonus: An FAQ on your website also helps you show up in more voice search results!

Take a Stroll Down Memory Lane

What was your small business like on Day One? How did you get started? What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them? Write a blog post that takes your readers back to the very beginning. Brownie points if you can dig up old photos and videos, or screenshots of your very first website to show how far you’ve come!

Blog About an Event Happening in Your Community

If your small business has a big local following, feel free to don your reporter’s cap and share some local news. What happened at the chamber of commerce meeting last month? How is this year’s high school football team doing? Who won the bake-off at the Kiwanis club?

Just because you run a small business doesn’t mean every blog post has to focus on your products and services. Your community supports you; you should be supporting them right back!
